Camping

Hi, everyone! Tyler and I went camping this weekend with our Small Group from church. And when I say camping, I mean the REAL thing, complete with spiders, sweating while sleeping and an all-out Texas thunderstorm last night. All kidding aside, we thought you might like to see a few pictures from our adventures in Tyler State Park! We had a great time with our new friends! Among other activities, we went hiking, paddled our way through the lake on a paddleboat, went swimming, cooked out and had s'mores around the campfire. To top it off, one of the couples (Nathan & Elizabeth) braved mother nature with a 21-month old! We are thankful for a weekend out of the "city" and the wonderful people we went with...

Hey Tyler, how do you think Super Nana would fair out in the wild? Her dad always said if he couldn't be more comfortable where he was going than he would be at home, he'd just stay home. I think some of it rubbed off on her; however, I don't think I could handle the spiders, etc. I probably wouldn't sleep a wink. I think it's great for you all, though. I know you all came home blessed.

Glad to see you got to spend some time with people from your small group. We host one at our house every Tuesday and they're like family now. Nate said he'd love to take the girls camping if we can go but then come home and stay in our beds at night. Hmmm...is that camping?

I think Tyler and I both agree with Nate. We loved all of the outdoor activities and being outside all day, but we definitely prefer the Holiday Inn over a sleeping bag :) Most people don't consider that camping, but I certainly would!

Tyler & Mary Helen - It is always good to see what it is like without all the modern stuff we surround ourselves with...as long as I'm NOT the one seeing what it is like. I agree whole heartly with Uncle Alan, I'm just going to stay home.

Glad you all had so much fun. It is good to develop those type of friendships.

Mary Helen, I am really impressed!!! It sounds like you all had a great time. I will have to be honest...camping and my naturally curly hair just don't go together!!

That looks like so much fun (for someone else)! I remember the time that the Jones family was camping in east Texas. They invited us to come, but I insisted to Jerry that we drive back each night to Lufkin (about 30 mi. away) to spend the night. After all, they didn't even have hot water at the campground! I was really glad we did because one of the nights there was a terrible thunderstorm, but we were safe in our motel room! I'm sure my kids have never forgiven me for denying them what they would have considered tons of fun! Oh well, such is life! (I always wondered why Jerry's family didn't like me!)

Looking at the picture at the wedding picture at the top of the Blog I think it is safe to say that NONE of us are the wilderness type. The only one that I think would fit the prototype would be our very own "Brawny Man"

It was a good time, but I think we have sworn off camping in the summer for a long while. I would consider going back at a time of year where I didn't wake up sweating.

I was proud of Mae she was a little hesitant dealing with all the bugs, but she was a trooper for the most part. It was very pretty country and nice to see the stars again (I don't think they exist above Dallas).

It was very nice to come home to a hot shower and a real bed.
