Christmas Eve Plans

Okay family this may meet some resistance, but I am going to put this out there anyway.......I would like to recommend that we make life easier on ourselves and have baked potatoes and soup for Christmas Eve dinner. I was thinking of beef and chicken soup with homemade noodles. Plus some nice soft dinner rolls. Now how is that for comfort food? I thought everyone could bring toppings for the potatoes.

  • easy preparation

  • comfort food

  • delicious

  • easy clean up

How does that sound???

You're right about the resistance part... :)

Just as last year I am going to have to encourage you and the rest the family to cook another delicious holiday dinner! Please!

Since I missed Thanksgiving, I am craving all of our staple dishes! To me at least, it just isn't the holidays without a big extravagant feast!

So... Mom, here's my pitch. Lets have a traditional Christmas (Eve) dinner with the extended family. And then Christmas day the Johnson family can have baked potatoes.

Well how about if we do it the opposite way around...baked potatoes on Christmas Eve and the feast on Christmas Day? The Navarro family won't be here on Christmas Eve but will be here Christmas Day.

Sounds good to me Jana. As long as Christmas dinner is in there somewhere... :)

Okay, here is another suggestion. I do agree with you Kim, that Christmas Eve needs to be kept very simple since it turns into such a late night. What if you have your Johnson family for baked potatoes and soup Christmas Eve, and we will do something at our house similar and maybe do our family gift exchange. Then after dinner, we will join together for Thankmas and desserts or that can be done the next day. Christmas day we will have our big traditional Christmas meal with plenty of time afterwards for cleanup. What do you think about that?

Kim, your idea is perfect for us. However, I agree with Alana that we can do our own thing on Christmas eve(small family gift exchange, etc.) and have Tara's "feast" on Christmas Day. If we could do the Thankmas after Christmas dinner, we'd still be through early for any who will be going back home---Austin, Dallas, or Athens. I think if we do the Thankmas Christmas Eve, we'd be keeping the little ones up late, since everything wouldn't start until after the candlelight service. Kim, you could set the time for dinner such as 1:30 or 2:00 to make it easier on you.

I like mom's idea for soup and potatoes! I don't think we have to have a "Christmas dinner" the same as always. Also, Mary Helen and I have already made plans with other family commitments on Christmas Day so we may not be able to attend anything other than Christmas Eve.

ok fine. No one needs to cook a big meal just for Cody and me...

Kim, I do like that idea and know it would be much easier on you. Tyler LOVES the idea of the soups because those noodles are his favorite! I like Alana's idea of having Thankmas and desserts after dinner on Christmas Eve. I am up for making a fun dessert and maybe some hot chocolate? Then y'all can have the traditional meal on Christmas Day. Tyler and I will have to miss out because we will be with my family, but that is okay :) I am sure we will be looking for some leftovers if there are any!

Tara, we will definitely have our big Christmas feast! But Christmas day would be easier on everyone than to do it late on Christmas eve. We can do the Thankmas whenever everyone wants to. We are not going to let you miss out on all of our great food!!

I knew I was fishing for some trouble ...Alright here it goes. Christmas Eve for potatoes and soup and Thankmas with desserts and hot chocolate at our house. We will stay here as it would take too much time and confussion to relocate. The tables will remain up for the next day's meal for the traditional Christmas dinner at 2:00 pm Christmas Day. I think that will combine some of the suggestions of everyone.

Mom, if you are willing to cook two big meals, then cheers to you for your hard work. I wish we could see everyone on Christmas Day, but we have plans with Mary Helen's family. (PS - Melissa, given the previous posts you are off the hook for dishes, Tara gets to take over.)

What a great family. Everyone is trying really hard to be agreeable and think of Kim at the same time. That's the way it should be. We'll do our Christmas Eve light snack here, and you all let us know what time to be a your house for dessert and Thankmas. Any special requests for dessert for then? I plan to bake pecan pie for Christmas Day, and I think Alana is thinking of making chess pie for then for Matt and Kirby since they don't like pecans. We could just have cookies and hot chocolate Christmas Eve.

Umm...the Navarro's will be here on Christmas Eve now. I don't care what we eat, or when. I'm just here to clean dishes.
