My sweet "Zoe Bird"

As some of you may know. We had to put Zoey down yesterday. Her back unexplainably gave out on her, and she became paralyzed in her back 2 legs. Once the Dr. informed us that we could do nothing to make her walk again, we knew the kindest thing we could do for her, was let her go. Yesterday was a hard day in the Johnson & Campbell household. She will be dearly missed.

To be completely honest… I am struggling with the idea of Zoey being absent from my life. I know she has been in Temple the last few years, and Cody and I got another dog, but by no means had Zoey been replaced or forgotten. I was always excited to get home, and see my sweet friend. We had a bond distance or time could not break. Simply put, we loved one another.

For those of you who have had college dogs, you know how important they are. These animals become a part of who you are. They become your family. Zoey was my family.

I once read a quote about dogs that has stayed with me, “Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” Zoey was a part of my “whole.” And she will always be one of the most precious things to have touched my life.

I am thankful for her, and the time God allowed us to share.

Tara, I had NO idea and am SO sorry! I cried while I read your post (I'm still hormonal, but those pictures just did me in) and of course know how closely one can be with a dog. They are so precious and I am so sad that she is gone. She WAS a sweet, loving dog and I will miss seeing her at your parents too.

Tara, what true comments. Only true dog lovers understand how painful it is to let one go. I had to do that with Maggie after having her for 14 years. I once read an article about how we should follow a dog's example, and as a dog always keeps his/her eyes on it's master, we should do the same with our Master.(If only we were as faithful at all times to the Lord.)

Tara, I know yesterday was so hard for everyone. It is such a very painful thing to go through, even though you know you did what was best for Zoe. I'm so glad that I saw her and got to love on her when we were there on Saturday! She was so sweet!

Tara, I am so sad about Zoe. I just could not believe it when Tyler told me last night. She was such a sweet dog and I am glad that she blessed you with her friendship over the last few years. I am not good at losing animals because they do become part of you. Loved the pictures!

Oh boy, how sweet and sad all at the same time...you summed up the love that humans and dogs have for each other very well. our sweet buddy(maggie's sister) is still "slow but sure" but as sweet as ever!!! someday soon, we'll feel your pain & grieve like you are today, but are thankful for the love we've shared over the years...thinking of you all!!!

That's not fair to put the picture of "shaved Zoey" on her farewell post. That's like showing someone's driver's license at their funeral...

Jokes aside, Zoey was a great dog and will be sorely missed. God sent her to Tara to take care of, protect her, and provide companionship while she was away at school. In that sense "mission accomplished Zoe Bird"

Zoey was a good friend and running partner and I miss her on my left side. Zoey lived with us for a couple of years but she was devoted to Tara and was thrill to see her every time she was in Temple. The bond between them was magical.
